Used for: Stepping a positive voltage to a negative value with high efficiency and low noise
Pros:
- Low input and output ripple = small caps
- Inductors can be coupled for better performance and cost saving
- Isolated version possible
Cons:
- Complex to stabilise
- Requires two inductors
- Provides a negative output for positive input (or vice versa)
- Switch sees Vout + Vin voltage stress
